How to write a matrimonial profile that gets genuine replies

A profile is not a résumé. Small, specific details attract the right families and quietly filter out the wrong ones.
Two profiles with identical education, income and community can perform very differently. The difference is almost always in how specific the writing is.
Replace adjectives with details
"Simple, homely and family-oriented" appears on thousands of profiles, so it tells a reader nothing. "Teaches Class 5 maths, cooks Sunday breakfast for the whole family, and is learning to drive" describes a person.
One concrete sentence about work, one about home life, and one about what the family values is enough. Three specific lines beat three paragraphs of adjectives.
Say what you are looking for — kindly but clearly
If living in the same city matters, say so. If continuing a career after marriage is non-negotiable, say that too. Clarity does not narrow your options; it removes the conversations that were never going to end in a marriage, and saves both families months.
Photographs
- One clear face photo in daylight, without a filter, and without sunglasses.
- One full-length photo in ordinary clothes — not only wedding-function outfits.
- One relaxed photo: at work, travelling, or with family.
- Avoid group photos where the family cannot tell who the profile belongs to.
Complete the profile fully
Fill every field. Families read an incomplete profile as something being withheld — the blank column is the first thing raised on the call. There is no verified badge on this site to answer that for you, so a complete and internally consistent profile is the only thing standing in for the checks a family would otherwise want. What to leave out of a profile is a separate list, and worth reading before you fill the free-text fields.
Where this comes from
This article carries no external sources. It rests on the SaathiSutra matchmaking team’s own work with families in these districts. Where an article turns on a statute or a government portal we cite it; where the advice comes from experience we say so rather than attaching official-looking links it does not rest on.
